As an answer to this problem, Goliath Scorpion scientists started the Mosquito project. From this, was born the Turbo Mosquito, which approaches speeds of nearly 500 kph. Original plans called for a biped 'Mech, however simulated testing of the design exposed the project's inherent instability. The whole idea was nearly scrapped until one of the engineers, Joanna, took a walk out in the nearby forest to vent some of the frustration from their inability to fix the design flaw. While in the woods, Joanna fell into a deep trance after having been stung on the ankle by a small scorpion. In this trance, she saw her clan's totem, the Goliath Scorpion. She became enthralled with the grace with which it moved, and its unsurpassed stability even when executing difficult maneuvers. When she awoke, she had no doubt about the meaning of this vision: the 'Mech was to be of the quad design.^The Turbo Mosquito is the epitome of the advancing technological age. This quad omni is built upon an endosteel frame that is covered in 1.5 tons of ferro fibrous armor, giving it over 60% of the maximum possible for a 10 ton machine. The 'Mech was given a small cockpit, since the machine itself is of diminutive size. Also, the engineers deemed that an ejection seat would be an unnecessary piece of equipment. Instead, the engineers placed small charges at each of the connection points so that as soon as the 'Mech registers the destruction of its engine, gyro, or one of its legs, the charges immediately blow sending the head flying forward from the 'Mech's momentum at the time of destruction. Of course, this necessitated that the cockpit be equipped with several air bags, an axtra strap across the mechwarriors chest, hand holds on either side of his head, as well as considerable padding. The Turbo Mosquito's torsos house an XXL engine as well as an extra light gyro, which allow for its superior speed. When deciding upon what type of heat sinks to use, Goliath Scorpion scientists decided upon utilizing the laser heat sinks, because of the spectacular light show after twilight which they believe will serve as a fear factor for enemy units as the 'Mech would appear as a ball of lightning. While the Turbo Mosquito's running speed of 378 kph is quite dramatic, the engineers were not satisfied and put in an engine supercharger which when activated allows the 'Mech to reach speeds of nearly 500 kph. During the first field test of the design's speed capabilities, the mechwarrior assigned as the test pilot was instructed to go full-throttle and immediately hit the supercharger. As soon as he activated the supercharger, the mechwarrior was thrown into the back of the seat from the G-force causing him to pull the throttle into full reverse, which made the 'Mech immediately run backwards at full speed implanting itself into a wall. It was at that moment when the scientists realized that they would have to reverse the throttle directions, making the pulling back of the throttle the required action for forward momentum. Several variants of the Turbo Mosquito have been proposed for assignments to various units. First of all, the Prime mounts an extended range small laser. The A, for exclusive scouting ability, is equipped with a light active probe. For a highly capable spotter, the B variant is outfitted with a light TAG unit. Variant C carries a pair of extended range micro lasers. The D carries a heavy small laser for a bit more of a punch, while the E is armed with a micro pulse laser for easier targeting. The final variant, F, is the fire variant as it is rigged with a single flamer. All of these variants are quite capable in their assigned roles, as a hard-to-hit harrasser, as implied by its name, Turbo Mosquito. xSo far, Clan Goliath Scorpion has no plans to sell this 'Mech to any other clan, as they view it as their secret weapon.
