Not only did it carry inadequate anti-fighter armament, but its armor was insufficient to ward off continued assault, and its fighter squadrons were understaffed. This prompted the creation of the Tintagel class heavy destroyer. The Tintagel was a craft not only capable of going toe to toe with most current warship designs, but dismantling even the most determined of aerospace assaults. The new chief designer at Federated-Boeing Interstellar's Galax yard, fancying himself somewhat of an amateur historian of Earth's late 19th and early 20th century naval arms race, decided to model the ship on the British Naval axiom, "Strong Hulls make for Happy Crews". His objective was to increase not only the survivability but also the teeth of the new design. Taking his cues from Mitchell and Doolittle, he realized that just as Earth's surface fleets had been vulnerable to aerial attack, so too most modern warships' Achilles' heels were their vulnerability to aerospace fighter assault. He installed sixty-four ExoStar LRM-20s with Artemis, sixty-four ExoStar ER Large Lasers, sixty-four MainFire point defense Anti-Missile systems, and sixty-four Guided Technologies 2nd Generation Streak SRM-6s; this combination intended to give even the most experienced aerospace pilot something to worry about. In order to show the Admiralty the yard's capability with cutting-edge systems, he installed sixty-four NAIS Model 2-B Rotary AC-5s. Giving it some capital teeth, he installed sixteen naval Autocannon-20s, 12 AR-10 Multi-Fire Missile Systems, and eight defensive screen launchers. The Admiralty, unsure whether this new design would be a colossal blunder or a quantum leap, put it through the most rigorous testing imaginable. They went so far as to put it through a simulated assault by a Thera Class carrier. Not only was the Tintagel victorious, it probably would have conducted successful boarding action and captured the Marik ship. After this performance the Admiralty gave the go-ahead for full production. Federated-Boeing InterstellarGalax PlasmaStar (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown)[ none ]
