After Professor Gonzalez' untimely demise in yet another accident testing a prototype, his chief assistant, Ibrahim Chang, took over responsibility for the project. Unfortunately, the passing of Professor Gonzalez also put a crimp in the budget for the project. It was simply no longer possible to buy the extra light fusion engines necessary to achieve such tremendous speeds. This did, however, have the advantage that fewer prototypes were destroyed by accidents during testing. Chang's final model, the Gonzalez II, is designed to be a low cost scout/harasser for use by March and planetary militias. It has succeeded well in thhis role in testing to date and the AFFC HC is considering putting the design into production to quickly fill out the ranks in militia units at low cost. Production can begin relatively quickly as the wheeled chassis allows easy conversion of most automobile plants to military production.
