In 3057, Prince Victor Steiner-Davion met secretly with the executives of the Federated-Boeing Interstellar corporation on Galax. In this meeting Prince Victor requested that the company begin research and development of a new major class capital WarShip. He specified that the new ship must be bigger and stronger than any WarShip known to exsist at that time. Even larger and stronger than the McKenna Class Battleships of the Star League Navy of centuries past. With a daunting task set before them, the executives set their best engineering and design teams to work. Over the next few years the reasearch went very slowly. With no practical knowledge of vessels of the magnitude the engineers and designers had little to start work from. That changed in 3061 when Khan Phelan Kell of the Wolves in Exile allowed them access to technical schmatics of the Werewolf (a McKenna Class Battleship) as a favor to Victor. With this new technical knowledge and some pointers from some clan navel engineers, the teams from Federated-Boeing Interstellar managed to leap ahead in their reasearch. Finally in early 3066, with breakthroughs in chasis design and hull configuration as well as newly designed power plants and engines, they had a workable design and the began construction. Federated-Boeing Interstellar, in putting all of their manufacturing resources to use on this single project, including putting on hold the construction 6 Fox Class Corvettes, managed the unthinkable and completed construction of the first vessel in mid 3068. Seeking a foreboding name an executive chose Oberon, the mystical king of Avalon. Weapons trial beagan immediatly with moderate success and the Warship went on its shakedown cruise in late 3068. Results from the cruise were a long list of minor errors and glitches in the navigation systems, the power regulation systems and the target-tracking systems. During 3069, Federated-Boeing Interstellar engineers corrected the problems and streamlined the operating systems. New trials were conducted with astounding success across the boards. The WarShip preformed much higher than average in all fields. The Oberon was comissioned and made operational 12 November, 3069. It was due to make its first grand public revealing in the rumored 3071 Star League Martial Olympiad. The revealing of this vessel was of great importance to House Davion and the Federated Suns as it would show to all the other Great Houses and States of the Inner Shpere that the Armed Services of the Federated Suns ( A.S.F.S. ) was still as powerful as it ever was, despite the devistation of the Federated Commonwealth Civil War. When the Word of Blake Jihad broke out at the end of 3069, due to a lack of intelligence of the Word of Blake military assets and operational capacity as well as the Oberon having an inexperienced crew, lacking supplies and limited munitions for anything more than weapons tests, the vessel was immediately sent into hiding on the fringe of Federated Suns space to prevent its possible destruction or capture.CWith its main batteries of 54 Heavy Navel Gauss Cannons and 28 Navel AutoCannon 40's, the Oberon is unmatched in offensive firepower. When combined with its heavy Lamellor Ferro-carbide Armor and 24 Beagle Active Probes, the Oberon becomes the undeniable master of any navel engagment. For added offense and defense, the Oberon relies upon its compliment of 70 aerospace fighters. To defend the ship, the Oberon is equiped with 11 AMS batteries ( 5 Laser AMS and 6 Ballistic AMS ) for point defense, 38 Small Pulse Lasers ( set in 19 independent Double-Mount batteries ) for short range defense, 16 LRM 20 batteries with Artemis IV FCS for longer ranges and 10 AR-10 lanchers for work at extreme range. The WarShip also is equiped with 32 Angel ECM Suites around the vessel, as well as 2 Screen Lanchers in the aft firing arc.(None so far, but that will change.......-Only one vessel exsists of the Class: Oberon (The first and so far only Oberon Class vessel has yet to be used in combat. During the Word of Blake Jihad, the WarShip was hidden somwhere on the fringe of Federated Suns space to prevent Word of Blake extremist agents from capturing and/or destroying such a powerful (and expensive) vessel.
