What he discovered inside the Dropship was one of the greatest archaeological finds in the last 200 years. Within the Dropship were twelve vintage Mackies, the first Battlemechs to ever see military service. He reported the find to his superiors and they immediately called for assistance from Brigadier Gerald Dildine of the Red Chasseurs, the unit assigned to Lastpost. Several months later all twelve Mackies had been transported to Taurian Defense Forces HQ on Taurus. Of the twelve, only ten were serviceable, but none of them had functioning electronics or fusion cores and much of the armor was damaged or brittle due to the extreme cold it had been trapped in. The military designers decide to see if they could refit these designs with more up to date equipment. After losing one Mackie in one of the early redesigns, the scientists had success on their second attempt. They used as many locally produced parts as possible, but had to acquire armor and electronics from the Free Worlds League and some wepons and the Guardian ECM Suite from the Capellan Confederation. In exchange for their aid the Captain-General and the Chancellor were each given one of the refits. The scientists made several upgrades to the design. First they replaced the non-functioning engines with locally produced Warner F 300-series Fusion engines. This freed up alot of weight for weapons and armor. The armor they used for the design is Durallex Special Heavy with CASE, with 17.5 tons being applied to the Mackie for increased armor protection over the original. They replaced the ancient PPC with a Magna Firestar model. The old autocannon was replaced with the heavier and more powereful Pontiac Kinetix Gauss rifle and two tons of ammo. The two medium lasers were removed and replaced by two Diverse Optics 27 Medium Pulse Lasers and two Diverse Optics Type 18X ER Medium Lasers. For additional firepower, Delta Dart 10-tube and Shannon Six-Shooter missile launchers wereinstalled. All the electonics had to be replaced with new equipment, the Neil 9000 Communications set and the RCA Instatrac Mark XII with the Artemis IV FCS were installed. Additionally, the Apple Churchill Guardian ECM Interface was also installed. The project was completed in May of 3060 and all the Mackies were distibuted by the Protector.    ¶Aside from the two sent to the Captain-General of the Free Worlds League and the Chancellor of the Capellan Confederation. The remaining seven Mackies were distributed to loyal commanders within the Taurian Defense Forces. The Protector took one for himself, four went to senior officers in the Taurian Guards, one went to Brigadier Dildine and the other, refurbished to its original appearance, went to the Taurian Defense Forces Museum.
