XVII5[ 5[ 66âÿVÃ In response to the need for light and fast mechs, as the Jade Falcon's favored Ullers are far too slow, and the Dasher and Koshi too lightly armored, Khan Marthe Pryde urged her scientists to come up with a light mech that could easily outmatch and overpower most light and medium machines. Taking the successful Locust IIC design, the scientists took it one step further, basing their research on the Federated Commonwealth "Gooney Bird" LCT-3P.š The original Locust IIC was a marvel of engineering, but the IIC JF2 variant expands on that successful base. Using an XL engine instead of the standard increases the cost, but the scientists decided that if the mech was meant more for frontline use, cost was not a priority (particularly after the need for new machines following the Refusal War). Like the Inner Sphere Gooney Bird, the JF2 has a ER PPC, but with the added firepower of Clan technology. Furthermore, two ER small and two ER micro lasers are in the arms, providing vital backup weapons. The targeting computer linked to all these weapons is mere icing on the cake, as is the increased armor. ê The Locust IIC JF2 is commonly deployed in second-line clusters, though more and more it is being seen in frontline units, as the stigma of piloting a 'regular' mech is slowly being outweighed by its sheer effectiveness in battle.—From TRO 3055.
