However, over the course of the last two years, the Mescaleros have managed to work around its disadvantages, turning it into a capable base of operations. When the Mescaleros first managed to get ahold of the ship, only one of the three docking collars was in optimal condition, with one unable to support any DropShip over 4,000 tons, and the third not functional at all. A comprehensive examination of the ship revealed that there was just no way to fix the third docking collar, so, taking a page from the Capellan Quetzalcoutl class modification of the Scout class, the Mescaleros added a squadron of aerospace fighters. Because of difficulties converting the small craft hangar to support the fighters, the Mescaleros had to remove one of the two small craft berths to get the modification to work right. Most of the remaining mass, meanwhile, was converted into extra cargo. Some of the extra mass, however, was devoted to improving the ship's firepower. In all, two dozen extended-range lasers (half of which are 8cm large lasers, half 5cm mediums), were mounted across the ship, as well as six twin point-defense laser turrets. While impressive, it still took nearly three months just to overhaul the ship's power distribution and cooling system and, even with the improvements, the ship cannot fire its full weapons complement at once. During a smuggling job for the Triads, the Mescaleros discovered, much to their regret, that they should have broken a cardinal rule of "transporting" - looking to see what it is you're smuggling for your client. After meeting with the Dark Caste just inside the Clan Occupation Zone, the Mescaleros transferred the cargo for the Triad, and picked up the delivery they were supposed to return. It was only then they discovered they'd been transporting hundreds of tons of pure concentrated heroin, in return for a White Shark launcher (& load of ten missiles) they were supposed to return to the Triads. Unhappy with being used as drug couriers, the Mescaleros declared their contract null and void, and kept the White Shark launcher for themselves, angering the Triads. The Mescaleros, though, consider the White Shark small payment for the resultant trouble the Mescaleros have had with the Clan Watch. Forunately, the continued patronage of Comstar, especially the Precentor in charge of Solaris VII, has assisted the Mescaleros greatly in maintaining a balance of power against both the local Watch operatives, and the Triads. Unfortunately, the installation of the missile launcher has cut severely into the Redemption's cargo capacity, and the unit's DropShip, a modified Buccaneer class, has had its own cargo load reduced, in favor of larger engines. iSource: Technical Readout 3057 Fluff entered by Larry "Highball" Leslie Design entered by Randall Bills (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown) (Unknown)[ none ]
