Light Mechs simply could not take the damage dished out by more modern, more accurate weapons. To the traditional Lyran mind, the solution was obvious: build a bigger, tougher scout. How much bigger was the next question, and it had a simple answer: BIGGER. The LAAF had never been overly skilled at using light Mechs, and had long suffered jokes about its love for assault designs. It was time to make all the jokers eat their words, on both counts. With that order in mind, Coventry Metal Works began following a path less traveled: the fast assault Mech. It was a concept that had been explored with fair success before, and so the design team began by studying older designs, like the Spartan and Charger. The team also took inspiration from the Executioner, and its combination of MASC and jump jets. The result was a Mech that the Inner Sphere had long joked about, but only the Lyran mind could make into reality: an 80-ton assault scout, built to go where more traditional scout designs feared to tread. The new Mech was named the Grossjager (Great Hunter), and it has added a whole new level of power to the LAAF's forces. 8The Grossjager is one of the most mobile Mechs of its size ever built. Its ES2 chassis supports a huge 400 XL engine, enhanced by MASC and jump jets. This gives the Grossjager the ability to jump 150 meters, and top out at 108 KPH with MASC engaged...potentially faster than many Mechs half its size. The Grossjager's agility enhances its defenses. Not that it needs enhancing; the Grossjager is armored like a true assault Mech, enabling it to survive situations (such as are common on the Clan front) that would doom lighter scout units. The Grossjager also carries a Beagle Probe, Guardian ECM and TAG, to properly perform in its designated role. Like most "fast" Mechs its size, the Grossjager's mobility comes at the expense of its armament. An ERPPC and a trio of medium lasers are the Grossjager's only weapons. But this lack of big guns is deceptive; the Grossjager's agility lets it close swiftly, and crush foes with its sheer size. The torso mounting of the weapons makes this even more practical, by allowing the Grossjager full use of its guns in close combat. Grossjagers are still new, and relatively rare in the LAAF. They are being deployed to raiding and scout units, where they provide a level of staying power and survivability that the LAAF's lighter forces have long been lacking.Designed by James Myers [ none ]Coventry Metal WorksCoventryDefianceLexington Limited Coventry GJRTharHes HM-10 with Guardian ECM&TharHes Ares with Beagle Probe and TAGLexington Lifters
