Though the Dakota is capable of serving in any capacity, it is often associated with Caterpillar Heavy Industries' own Keiler Minesweeper and the M009 80-ton Trailer. WThe M1071 Dakota Transporter is a heavy, 80 ton design. For motive, engineers selected a 8x8 wheeled chassis, which offers excellent cross country mobility. The front of the vehicle features the crew/passenger/control cabin. Capable of seating ten, the Dakota has a crew of six and four control stations for the Keiler Drone Minesweepers. The CHI 300 Multi-Fuel Engine is mounted just behind the cabin, which can move the Dakota at cross-country speeds of 65 kph. Pulling an 80 ton trailer fully loaded such as the M009, the Dakota can still move at speeds nearing 33 kph. The Dakota has a largw flatbed, which can support twenty-tons without a loss in performance, and is big enough to carry a single M890 Keiler Minesweeper. For protection against the elements and rough loading/unloading, the Dakota is plated with four tons of standard armor.  Though most Dakotas are powered by the 300 Multi-Fuel Engine, some featured a lighter, more power Fusion Engine. These vehicles typically served with the Hegemony and Star League.
