Overview:
The Clans have learned to make war on nearly
every conceivable area that humans can venture. Their
Aerospace fighters rule both atmospheric and
transatmospheric, their 'Mech's fight on any surface
that will support their weight, and their warships vie
the spaceways eternally looking to do battle. Nature
abhors a vacuum, and it is the Clans way to make war.
Nearly every civilized planet known to man with enough
water on it to support one has a fleet of merchant
vessels. It is for this simple reason that the clans
still carry in their toumans the Moray Hydrofoil.
Anything that can be taken or defended, by clan logic
must have something with which to take or defend it.
The Moray is designed to afford the clans
something resembling a rapid strike capability on the
seas. Originally hovercraft were pressed into all
maritime duties. However it was soon relearned by the
Clan Diamond Shark that the seas were a harsh mistress.
Hovercraft, even the fearsome ones that the latest in
scientific advancement had brought to bear, cannot
perform as intended in the roughest of seas.
Displacement hulls had little to worry from ten meter
breakers, choppy water was annoying, but not a
catastrophic threat to their seagoing integrity, and
should an engine fail in such environments, a
displacement hulled craft was nowhere near as bad off as
a hovercraft.
Capabilities:
Clan Diamond Shark, the most merchant-like
of all the clans to begin with, has always had a special
affinity for the seas. It is no surprise then that their
foray into seagoing war machines should be so
devastating. Where other clans attempted merely to build
vessels locally when and where needed, Clan Diamond
Shark designed a small craft capable of being
transported to wherever needed and set loose upon their
tasks in a very rapid manner.
Morays are air-transportable, can survive falls
of upwards of fifteen meters from aircraft traveling up
to two hundred miles per hour, and contain enough stores
onboard for up to three weeks of self-sufficiency before
the human on board needs resupply. Their only weapon is
an ER Small Laser, but at sea even small holes can doom
large ships. Besides, Morays never travel alone.
Deployment
Morays are treated by Diamond Sharks much
the same way other clans treat Elementals. Five of the
small craft to a Point, and they attack in clusters.
They staff the with either Freebirths, or Trueborn who
have passed all their sibko testing, but for whatever
reason failed their trial of position. Indeed the near
invulnerability of the craft to rough deployment is a
direct result of the distain with which it is held in by
the other arms of the Clan military. Seen as expendable
assets, they are treated thusly in all instances.
Only Clan Diamond Shark utilizes the Moray, all
other clans choose to continue to utilize hovercraft,
Vtols, and Aerospace Fighters for their Sea Warfare
needs.
