Program Updates

Staying Up To Date

While we like you checking back here often, by signing up for the HeavyMetal Group Newsletter, we'll notify you when new updates are available. In addition, you'll receive news about new HeavyMetal products, web site changes and more. Please check out the HeavyMetalPro Newsletter and Group, and sign up.

What about Vista?

While we're all in a learning process with Vista, please visit the Running HeavyMetal on Vista page for the latest in instructions and information on running the HeavyMetal program on Microsoft's latest operating system. The bottom line is: YES! You can run your HeavyMetal programs on Vista. Bill just has some hoops he'd like you to jump through first!

Updating Instructions

Please click on the link for the program update desired. Also, see the Updating Instructions below the update links for more important information.

Only 1 Update Needed

With any of the HeavyMetal programs, you only need the last update; you do not need any previous ones, in order to get all of the benefits of the new release. Therefore, if you have any version of HeavyMetal Pro, from 5.00 on, just install the latest update, and don't worry about having any intermediate updates. All you ever need for these programs in order to stay completely current is 1) Any version of the full Setup program, and 2) The latest Update.

Determine the Correct Directory

Be sure, when installing any of these updates, to install them to the correct directory. Normally, the Setup program determines this and prompts you with it, but especially if you have installed to more than one location, you need to be sure you use the right directory. Also, while the separate programs usually install to, for example,

   "C:\Program Files\HeavyMetal Pro"

HeavyMetal Plus will instead install to

   "C:\Program Files\HeavyMetal\Pro"

If you install to the wrong directory, 1) You will not update your operating version of the program, and 2) The update will not run on its own.

HeavyMetal Pro Updates

Two updates are available for HeavyMetal Pro:

Now available is an update which includes the modified weapon Battle Values, and the updated Battle Value calculations from the new Classic BattleTech TechManual, commonly called BV2. HeavyMetal Pro V5.21 R0, posted 03/06/2008, is the latest release using the new Battle Value (BV2) calculation method. While the new equipment from the TechManual is not included in the program, the BV calculation method is consistent with the new rules.

Also available is an update which includes the modified the original BV values and calculations from Classic BattleTech Master Rules. HeavyMetal Pro V 5.10 R1, posted 07/21/2007, is the last release using the original Battle Value, and is provided so that the user can continue to use the old BV, which is consistent with BVs from the other HeavyMetal programs. You can view the HeavyMetal Pro Revision History, information which includes both the updates above.

IMPORTANT - Battle Value and Battle Value 2

Please read more about BV and BV2, as well as suggestions on how to make use of both on your computer, at the Battle Value versus BV2 page.

HeavyMetal Vee Updates

Two updates are available for HeavyMetal Vee:

Now available is an update which includes the modified weapon Battle Values, and the updated Battle Value calculations from the new Classic BattleTech TechManual, commonly called BV2. HeavyMetal Vee V2.20 R3, posted 03/12/2008, is the latest release using the new Battle Value (BV2) calculation method. While the new equipment from the TechManual is not included in the program, the BV calculation method is consistent with the new rules.

Also available is an update which includes the modified the original BV values and calculations from Classic BattleTech Master Rules. HeavyMetal Vee V 2.07 R5, posted 10/14/2007, is the last release using the original Battle Value, and is provided so that the user can continue to use the old BV, which is consistent with BVs from the other HeavyMetal programs. You can view the HeavyMetal Vee Revision History, information which includes both the updates above.
