HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics
HeavyMetal
Map is a highly graphical program, using many megabytes of files, usually
organized into Palettes. Although almost 50 megabytes of graphics are supplied
with the program, it is also possible to add your own graphics (or those
designed by someone else) to the program. If you haven't already taken a look at
HMMap, please do so here.
Therefore, this page is dedicated to additional map graphics, submitted by users
of the program as well as myself, and available at no additional cost for all
HMMap users to have. Those who have original graphics they would like to submit
to this page, to be posted for all to see and use, should email those to me at
rick@heavymetalpro.com.
I will go through them, and as I have time, post them here for everyone. I would
have liked to have a more automatic method of doing this, but unfortunately,
some people take advantage of such web pages by posting inappropriate graphics.
So, I'll take care of them myself.
The following groups of file types are available for use with
HMMap:
Map Data Files using Standard Palettes
These are actual map files, which can be made using one of the standard palettes
supplied with HMMap (All, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced). As all program
users have these palettes, these map files will load without any changes.
No new map data files are available at this time.
Map Data Files with Custom Palettes
These are map data files which have been designed using a custom palette. As all
users will not have the particular custom palette used, these maps will have
their own custom palette, along with the map data file, compressed into a single
zip file. The custom palette should be located in a single folder, with the
palette name, and zipped while maintaining the folder and file relationships. In
this way, they can be unzipped into the \Palettes folder of HMMap, and the map
data file unzipped into the \Maps folder.
No new map data files with custom palettes are available at this time.
Custom Palettes
The following are custom palettes, zipped up while maintaining the folder
relationship, that can be used to make new maps with a variety of graphics.
No custom palettes are available at this time.
Path Graphics
Path graphics consist of at least 23 specifically formed graphics, used to draw
both natural and manmade paths in HMMap. In addition, it is often desirable to
have a unique button graphic to use for them.
Green Roof Building Path
An extra building path that was not needed. (You have to stop somewhere!)
Just copy the files to the \Paths folder of the palette(s) you'd like to use it
in and add them to a palette. 732 KB in
size.
I developed the following building paths as alternatives to the thinner building
outlines of the same color, to more graphically represent the CF (Construction
Factor) of buildings. Each has 28 graphics (1 button, 23 path, 2 corner details
and 2 matching single hex buildings):
Medium Tan Roof Building Path
A replacement for the Tan building path, these files can overwrite the standard
files in a palette's Paths folder, or you can rename them and use both by adding them to a new palette.
849 KB in size.
Note: Magenta is used as a transparent indicator; all magenta areas in the
graphic will be transparent. But graphics posted here will often include the
magenta to save time.
Heavy Brown Roof Building Path
A replacement for the Brown building path, these files can overwrite the
standard files in a palette's Paths folder, or you can rename them and use both by adding them to a new
palette. 822 KB in size.
Hardened Gray Roof Building Path
A replacement for the Gray building path, these files can overwrite the standard
files in a palette's Paths folder, or you can rename them and use both by adding them to a new palette.
839 KB in size.
Hex Graphics
Hex graphics are individual graphics that can be used in a number of palette
areas, such as Terrain, Features and Details. They should be placed into the
appropriate folder for the palette you want to use them in, then added to the
palette.
No new hex graphics available at this time.
Add-On Graphics
Add-On graphics are usually larger, and can be place anywhere on the map, even
being offset from the normal hex location, and can as well be stretched and
resized. Large building or factory complexes, forts and DropShips are excellent
uses for Add-On Graphics. They should be placed in the \Add-ons folder of HMMap,
and do not need to be added to a palette to be available.
No new Add-On graphics available at this time.
Backgrounds
Background graphics are tiled over the entire map, and are used to make a
background to the feature, path and other graphics on the map. Any BMP, GIF or
JPG file that tiles well can be used. They should be placed into the
\Backgrounds folder of HMMap, and do not need to be added to a palette to be
available.
No new Background graphics available at this time.
Check back again soon!
The graphics on this page should increase rapidly, as new users make their
own graphics that they would like to share with others. So if you don't see what
you're looking for, stop back. Better yet, draw the graphics yourself, and email
it to me, to be shared here with others!
